The holidays are a great time to take a short drive from Hanover around the South Shore area for festivities. Whether you’re in town looking for an apartment or home, make plans to attend one or more of the following holiday events on the South Shore. Keep in mind that becoming a year-round resident means you’ll be able to enjoy the area’s festivities year after year.
Colchester Neighborhood Farm Old-Fashioned Christmas
Where: 90 Brook Street, Plympton, MA 02367
Colchester Neighborhood Farm, located just 15 minutes away in Plympton, holds its annual community event on December 16th from 12 to 4 p.m. This free event features holiday crafts for kids to make, pictures with Santa, caroling and tasty holiday treats, including hot cocoa and Christmas cookies. The whole family can see farm animals and join in the festivities. You can also buy a fresh-cut Christmas tree or festive wreath while you’re there.
Middleborough Festival of Lights
Where: 438 Plymouth Street, Middleborough, MA 02346
This annual holiday lighting event takes place December 16th and 17th from 4 to 9 p.m. Head down to the Boston/Cape Cod KOA Campground in Middleborough, which is just over 25 minutes away, and you’ll be able to see several acres of impressive holiday lighting displays. For just $2 per car, you and your family can enjoy the lighting displays, then stop by Christmas Village for cookies, cocoa, photos with Santa, Christmas music and more. Other highlights include model train displays, alpacas and a holiday decorating contest for the campground’s cabins.
Enchanted Village and Polar Express
Where: 100 Stockwell Drive, Avon, MA 02322
The Enchanted Village and Polar Express at Jordan’s Furniture in Avon is less than 30 minutes away. Drive over and explore the Enchanted Village, which features holiday mechanical figurines and vignettes that were restored in 2009. The village is open to the public throughout the holiday season until January 1st. You and your family can also enjoy the exciting Polar Express 4D Experience, which is open through January 1st. Keep in mind that both holiday attractions are closed on Christmas Day.
The Wonder of Christmas
Where: 55 Accord Park Drive, Norwell, MA 02061
This annual holiday spectacular in Norwell, which is just 10 minutes northeast of Hanover, features live performances, a Santa visit, delicious treats and a light show. This year’s event takes place on December 15th at 7 p.m. and at 3 p.m. on December 16th and 17th. See a performance of “A Christmas Klaus,” watch a computerized Christmas light show and meet Santa for pictures. Enjoy sweet holiday treats at the cafe, and take photos with princesses and other famous characters.
